Today we announced we will be releasing a Management Pack for vRealize Operations. If it was that simple we would just release it without much fanfare. This Management Pack (MP) is like any other of the many storage vendors who have such a thing as it will provide all the info on iOPS, or latency that you might be interested in. However, it has something that no one else has and that is definitely worth sharing.
Our MP will also surface the sensitive and confidential information (also known as Personally Identifiable Information (PII)) that our storage array finds. What does this mean? It means that when the DG array discovers confidential or sensitive information - like a credit card for example on a VM, it will change the vRealize Operations Risk rating of that machine to reflect it was found. So it will turn the VM red. Lets look at some pictures.
Below we are looking at the DataGravity dashboard titled Critical PII.
The other VMs have no PII so if we changed to other VMs the Risk would be green. If we double-click on the Risk icon we will get more information - as seen below.
We get some additional information in this screen that helps us understand why Risk is red.
Another way to look at things - via the Alerts view.
You can see a variety of alerts here but note that the Risk ones of PII.
So this is why we are pushing in public our MP more then other storage vendors have. It is not like other MP that storage companies do but in fact so much more.
You may ask when this is available - but all I can say is that I will be sure to tell you when it is available and it is not too far away.
Update:
- 8/20/15 - this is now available in the Solutions Exchange. I would love to hear what you think about it.
Michael
